One Foot in Front of the Other

Well the church board was overwhelmingly gracious and understanding. I knew they would be. All agreed that a letter to the congregation mailed on Saturday, echoing what I will say on Sunday, would be appropriate.

Now I just have to write it.

And I thought a sermon was hard.

Sorry. I couldn't resist. And I made it as quick as I possibly could.

they don't put those kind of letters in the "How to say the right thing" books do they? Maybe if you breathe deeply enough you'll be inspired

to quote the supervisor of a friend who had a similar letter to write: "they are Christians over there aren't they?" Prayers for God's grace in abundance.

Holy Spirit write this with WS.

Help her breathe in Your courage God, and state facts honestly and with love.

Transform the congregation into a praying people, appreciative of Your healing in situations that are impossible in our eyes.

Lord I also ask that you still the tongues, the gossip and the wagging fingers, and instead open the mouths for prayer and words of encouragment and offers of help, and help raise the hands in worship and in practical acts.

Thank you that WS is not alone and does not have to walk alone. Let your love show through the congregation.

Especially blesss the little boy - reveal Yourself to Him as his Heavenly Father. Help his Dad understand Your Grace and loving kindness. Surround them all with your love.

Amen

(sorry if this sounds preachy ...)

Love and prayers and shoulder squeeze or two as well. A colleague in ministry here had to write the same sort of letter to her very very conservative, deeply rural congregation a few months ago - and they were amazing...supportive, caring, giving her space when she needed it and friendshp when that was appropriate. Prayers that it works that way for you too.

They are blessed to have you as their pastor.

Put Lorna's prayer in the letter.

If you give people something to say, they won't have to come up with something on their own that just wouldn't be nice.

Prayers, prayers, prayers.

It's so hard to have your private life become so public because you're a pastor. Dang.
